Farmer's Markets are Back!

Daisy Hill Garden is back and better than ever before. We weathered COVID for the last fifteen months and we were still able to grow the tastiest produce this side of the Mississippi. We were able to find ways safe ways to have our 2020 and 2021 plant sales, no contact pick up all the produce last year, and to hold our annual birdhouse auction, which will now be a springtime auction from now on. This year we have expanded and added amazing T-shirts from River Rat Printing and Farmhouse Décor items made right here at Hilltop by the Jayhawks. The farmer’s market is back live on Wednesday afternoons and all proceeds go straight back to the garden program here at Hilltop. We now accept cash, check, cards and Venmo at the market to make your purchases easier. So far this year we have earned over $3000 for the outdoor classroom project and we're gardening right up to the first freeze so hopefully we'll come close to our goals.

We have added and trained several new Garden Managers to our crew of school age gardeners. Each manager must pass a comprehensive test about gardening and our specific garden, and then receives special training about all things Daisy Hill Garden. Each manager has their own crew and are responsible for the crops in their garden beds. Every week the garden managers and crews will go out and harvest the produce, tend the compost pile, feed our feathered friends, and run the farmer’s market.

We are also all over social media. Our brand new website daisyhillgarden.com launched a couple of weeks ago and it looks fantastic. Check it out for sale details, blogs from the managers, updates on special activities and programs (after COVID), and don’t forget to use the “order now” page to place preorders for produce and gifts that can be paid for and picked up at the market on Wednesday. Also follow us on Twitter and Instagram for updates, reminders, and cute pictures of the kids in the garden.

This year all our earnings will be going to a special project in the front of the building. We have designed an outdoor classroom space to be used by all the classrooms at Hilltop for garden related activities. It will be a very large patio space with a new greenhouse specifically designed for our location. Many of you have seen the model in the front entryway of Hilltop. We have a family who has donated all the paving stones for the project, and we are saving for the rest of the materials and installation costs. We are always looking for people or businesses who would be interested in donating materials or labor for the project. We have many wonderful donors including Cromwell Solar, River Rat Printing, Missouri Organic Recycling and Joseph Ruth Photography who have given invaluable help to the garden, and we love telling everyone about their contributions. Check out all our signs including the Cromwell Solar sign on the barn for a complete list of our donors.

We look forward to seeing you at the Farmer’s market on Wednesdays and we’ll keep turning dirt into dinner until the first frost. Thank you, Daisy Hill Garden.
